Primus is such an iconic name in the world of outdoor adventure. Tell us the Primus story.
Cooking outdoors - it’s a heritage thing for us. Steeped in Swedish engineering, Primus is a generic term for outdoor stoves, primarily because we've been pioneering outdoor cooking since 1892. Our innovative products have been used in countless expeditions. Roald Amundsen used a Primus stove when he became the first person to reach the South Pole in 1911. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay used a Primus on Mount Everest when they climbed the summit in 1953.
Throughout the 1960s to 2010s Primus continued to be an important designer and innovator in outdoor cooking stoves. Now, in 2016, we're going back to our roots with CampFire, which has been designed with one eye on classic 1960s designs, aimed at those looking for high quality, stylish, versatile and durable cooking options when outdoors.
Tell us more about your CampFire range.
Drawing on 120 years of stove expertise and our Scandinavian design values of clean and simple lines, first-class engineering and sustainable materials, Primus introduces CampFire – a beautifully crafted range of quality, portable two-burner stoves, pots, pans and accessories for those with a love for entertaining outdoors.
Made in our own European factory, CampFire uses a unique combination of oak, stainless steel, brass, aluminium, canvas cloth and leather. This aesthetically appealing range has a number of clever little touches, such as integrated colanders in pan lids, a utensils kit with oak-handled stainless steel knives and accessories held in a canvas wrap, a cutlery set that packs neatly into a leather sleeve and a capacious utility sack with a watertight roll-top closure – handy for carrying water or food in, then for taking home used cutlery and plates after a memorable outdoor cooking experience.
What inspires you?
We want to be different and weave our passion for the outdoors with a Scandinavian aesthetic. Our technical expertise remains key to every one of our innovations, from stoves through to accessories.
When we generate new products, like the CampFire range, it’s based on a genuine love and respect for the outdoors and spending quality time with friends and family. Each step, from initial design through to production, is done internally in our Research & Development (R&D) facility as well as out in the field. CampFire was created after two years of R&D. We looked deeply into functions, materials and details to develop versatile, durable and portable cooking options while staying true to our roots.
Anything else you'd like to tell us?
There are three stoves in the CampFire range to choose from, each being light and compact enough to be carried in one hand or popped over the shoulder, yet suitable for large pots for cooking up treats for family and friends. At the end of the day the stoves fold away and fit neatly into a car boot ready for another culinary adventure.
We hand test every stove before it leaves our state of the art European production facility in Estonia.
Our goal is to ensure each and every product becomes a truly reliable, life-long companion.
